CONTRA-TIEMPO

joyUS justUS

To support the development and completion of "joyUS justUS," an evening-length Urban Latin Dance Theater production using urban American and Cuban traditional and social dance forms to explore the ideas of joy, resistance, and human connection. It is inspired by our nation’s long history of organized resistance against systemic oppression, and by personal stories gathered from Spanish-speaking and Black communities in South Los Angeles. Whenever humans have survived immense hardship and injustice, prevailing with their humanity intact, the presence of joy, the knowingness and celebration of our true beauty and power, has always been at the root.
