Project ABLE (Art Brokers Learning Experiences)

To support Project ABLE’s goal to reconnect disconnected migrant Latino youth ages 7-18 living in Fabens and Tornillo, TX, through engagement in a comprehensive high-quality creative youth development program. Youth are engaged in painting, printmaking, silk-screening, sculpture, photography, digital media, music and graphic design. The program integrates mentoring and training in the visual arts to develop leadership skills that ultimately engage students in healthy, positive activities that focus on improving their creativity, socio-emotional skills and empowered self-identity. Demographically, the local school district has a population of 2,350 students of which 98.7% are Hispanic, 92.4% are economically disadvantaged, 40.1% are limited English proficient, and 66.4% are at-risk students. Creative Kids is the only after-school program that is offered in rural Fabens and Tornillo and its work is crucial to cast a vision for the Latino youth they serve by providing tools needed to succeed in life.
