Pachuquismo

To support the development, expansion and presentation of Pachuquismo, an all-female, full length theater performance that explores the Zoot Suit Riots of 1943. Through Tap, Son Jarocho, live music, and video projection, the artists explore early Chicanx history, systemic racism and the experience of the unseen Pachuca during the 1940's. While most accounts on the Zoot Suit Riots tell the struggles of the Pachucos, their female counterparts, Pachucas, are rarely the focal point. This project expands Chicana representation in performance and dance, challenges the narrative of gender roles and interrogates machista society.
